GreNo: GreNo Authority and NTPC to work together to save groundwater

The Greater Noida Authority and National Thermal Power Corporation Limited have taken an initiative together to save groundwater. NTPC's research center at Ecotech II near Surajpur will now procure 500  kiloliters of treated water daily from the STP of Greater Noida  Authority. With this, the authority will also get a fixed income every month.

The Negotiations were on with NTPC for nearly a year to buy treated water from the STP (Sewage Treatment Plant) of the Greater Noida Authority. The NTPC is supposed to cover the cost of cleaning water incurred by Greater Noida Authority.
The Senior Manager Kapil Dev Singh, Officer-in-charge of Sewer Department, and many more officers were in constant touch with NTPC. The NTPC gave its consent on December 31, 2021 and will do the work of laying pipelines and installing pumps.

About 20 meters long pipeline is to be laid the cost of which is going to be paid by NTPC. This work will be completed in a month. NTPC may start taking water from February 2022.

Narendra Bhushan, the CEO of Greater Noida  Authority, described it as a big step in the path of groundwater harvesting. The CEO appealed to more companies and institutions of Greater Noida to use STP treated water for irrigation and non-drinking purposes so that groundwater can be protected.

Four STPs have been made by the Greater Noida Authority. The biggest  STP is in Kasna. Presently about 85 MLD sewer is being treated daily from this STP. About 15 MLD sewer is being treated daily from the STP located at Ecotech II. About five MLD sewer is being treated daily from STP located at Ecotech 3 and one and a half MLD from STP located at Badarpur. The treated water is being used for irrigation,  construction, and other such uses.

Jewar airport to be constructed using STP water.

Interestingly, the water requirement of the Noida airport under construction at Jewar will be met from the STP located at Kasna. Gound water will not be exploited for this purpose. Environment Clearance for the construction of the airport has been received on the condition that it will be constructed from treated water from STP.

The water will be supplied through tankers. Greater Noida Authority CEO Narendra Bhushan says that the authority is ready to provide treated water from STP for the construction of  Noida Airport. As soon as the demand is made, the authority will start the supply.
