When CitySpidey talked to residents of Dwarka to understand how they feel about the decision, we got mixed reactions. Some residents understood the gravity of the situation and supported the step.

SS Maan Singh, a resident of Sector-23, says, “It is a good step. It will again start once the situation normalizes. The residents should take all precautions to stop the spread of covid-19 and help the government in this drive.”

Ravi Jaitely, a resident of Sector-7, says, “Keeping the present Covid situation in mind, it's better to close down weekly market because neither the stall owners nor the customers follow Covid-19 norms properly. We don't mind ordering our requirements online than putting our and others' lives in danger.”

Sushil Kumar, President of Dwarka Forum, says, “Closing down the market will have an adverse impact on both citizens as well as vendors. However, while saying this, we should also not forget that cases are increasing at a rapid pace and hence we should look at this from all angles. The Health and security of the people is not negotiable. Another important point is that vegetables and fruits come under essential items which are permissible in any case so this may be permitted with Covid appropriate behaviour.”

However, there were residents who suggest coming up with some alternate solution.

Anurag, a resident from sector-7, says, “Economically, this is a very challenging situation because daily wagers are involved. In my opinion, there are many vacant DDA plots which can be allocated for these markets.”

Sadique Siddiqui, a resident from Sector-8, says, “Though I prefer online shopping for groceries and veggies, my house-help depends on these weekly markets as they are affordable. When big malls are open then these weekly markets should also be allowed to operate."

RK Jain, a resident from Sector-10, says, “The weekly vegetable market of Sector 6 is a very useful, convenient and cost-effective option for the residents of Sector 10 and Sector 6. It provided some vegetables and services which otherwise are not available in Dwarka. For example, we used to get our cashew nuts roasted in the sand in this market. While it is important to take measures which are necessary to avoid the spread of Covid-19."
