Dr Vaishali Verma, Consultant Dietitian, Diabetes educator from Manipal Hospital explains, "Protein is one of the essential macronutrients for the body. These are the building blocks that support the body to repair cells and make new ones."

Why is a protein rich diet is so important to prevent Covid 19?

Dr Verma explains, "Protein deficiency is directly linked to damage of your immune system. The negative effects and less intake of protein will make the body more prone to the attack of coronavirus."

As the experts explain that less protein intake directly affects the immune system. It is clear that lack of protein does not only make you  vulnerable to the Covid but it also leads to other viral infections.

"Therefore, we can only boost our immunity with a good  amount of protein intake." Dr Verma added.

What type of food is better for protein intake?

Dr Verma says, "There are two different groups of food which provide a rich amount of protein, i.e. widely divided in non-veg and dairy products which in combine known as animal products."

  • Legumes
  • Beans

How much protein does the human body require?

A variety of factors influence protein intakes such as age, sex, environment, lifestyle, profession and a lot more. However, Dr Verma clarifies "As per the RDA, 0.8grams of protein is required to a human body that means approximately 56grams of protein for sedentary men and  46grams of protein for sedentary women."
