Following several complaints of pet dogs defecating in the common areas of Kirti Apartments, a residential society in Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension, the managing committee of the society has issued a notice to pet owners in the society.

According to the notice, if a pet defecates in the common areas of the society, the owner of the pet would have to clean it. The notice reads: Many a times the pet dogs defecate during their morning walk, which leaves the common area of the society dirty. Not only in the common areas, but this has become a common sight even in lifts and staircases. Residents are also taking their pets to the roofs to ease [relieve] them and the area is left without being cleaned. This is very undesirable and avoidable.

It further states, “Residents should ensure that their pets do not defecate in the society campus and in the event it happens, it will be the duty of the pet owner to have it cleaned in the larger interest of the residents and society.”

Alka Gulati, a resident, said, “Initially on receiving such complaints, the managing committee first tried to convince some dog owners to maintain cleanliness in the society. But when they did not pay any heed to them, the committee decided to issue notices to all pet owners living in the society.”

SK Tuteja, secretary of the managing committee, told City Spidey that the committee has also warned pet owners that it would file a complaint to the civic authority if such acts are repeated. “The managing committee is not against pets. They (residents) are free to have a pet but we have to see the interest of other residents as well. Cleanliness and hygiene has to be maintained and we are not going to tolerate this anymore.”
