Paras Season: Black mold infested flats worry residents

The black fungus or black mold on the walls and sealings of their homes and common areas of the housing apartments, is giving nightmares to the residents of the Paras Season, a group housing society in Sector 168, Noida. The problem is majorly affecting around 100 families living in the residential towers located at the back of the housing society. Residents said they have been complaining on this issue regularly but no action has been taken so far.

The presence of black mold or fungus can lead to respiratory problems, respiratory infections, asthma or all allergies. This is what is the source of worries for the residents. The presence of black mold is a sure sign of poor maintenance of a building.

Tower 3 is the oldest tower in the society. This is the first tower in which residents started taking possession in the past six years. According to the residents, no maintenance or repair work has been  done till date. Tower has other issues such as seepage in the bathroom. About 100 families are living in tower 3. The upper floors of tower 3 are getting most affected as there is a lot of seepage from the roof. The residents are demanding a proper paint and repair job of the entire tower 3 from the builder.

The residents of Tower 3, 1401 have complained on the issue of black mold/fungus on their apartment walls, wall sealings and sent an email to the builder. They alleged that the builder and his maintenance team neglected the back towers of the society, even though they regularly repair the front towers of the society.

Chitra Tiwari, resident of flat number 1401, says, "This is the oldest tower more than 6 years old with no maintenance or repair work carried on from the time they were built. It feels like I am literally living in a fungus. I suspect that it is the cause of my ill health adding to my medical bill. Why don't they repair this tower? Are they waiting for the people to die?"

Vasundra Nigam, resident of tower 3 says, "it is really a shame that  the repairing is again starting from tower 1 not from the towers that are in shambles and actually need urgent attention. Why are the back towers not getting repaired first? They only paint towers 1 and 8 for their photoshoot, then they leave the remaining towers at the mercy of God almighty."
