East Delhi residents can now download birth and death certificates

Residents of East Delhi will no longer have to queue up for hours at the MCD office to get birth and death certificates. They can now just download them from the EDMC website, Mcdonline.gov.in

EDMC, or East Delhi Municipal Corporation, made this facility available from October 4.

The procedure is easy.

Step 1:

Visit the wesbite and choose "East Delhi Municipal Corporation".

Step 2:

Once the page has been redirected, click on "Online Services", marked in red on the right-hand-side of the page.

Step 3:

Now choose "Online Birth Certificate" or "Online Death Certificate" from under "Registration of Birth and Death", according to your requirement.

For birth certificate, the website prompts you for the hospital ID number. In the absence of an ID number, the website gives you the option to fill in the particulars of date of birth, gender and parents' names to access the birth certificate. An online charge of Rs 21 is applicable.

For a death certificate, too, one can search either by registration number or by filling in the deceased's particulars. A charge of Rs 11 is levied in this case.

Once you fill in the details, the EDMC's IT department verifies the data and generates the certificate in the next five minutes.

Jitender Chaudhari, chairman of the EDMC standing committee, said, “Nobody has the time to stand in queues for long hours. This online system will make things a lot easier for residents of East Delhi.” The North Delhi and the South Delhi municipal corporations have not introduced this facility yet.

Satya Sharma, EDMC mayor, told City Spidey that about 2,000 residents visit the EDMC office for birth certificates every month, and about 250-300 people turn up for death certificates. “East Delhi has more than 40 lakh residents. EDMC is constantly working towards providing better systems for them. We are also planning to start online services for health trade licence and factory licence.”
