Dwarka: The game of 'snakes and ladders' for an environmental cause

Brahma Apartments, Sector 7, Dwarka have adopted an innovative and fun-filled way to educate society's children about the environment. On the last Sunday afternoon, February 13, the kids of the society were educated about the environment and its protection through a game of ‘snakes and ladders'.

The children were taught about solid waste management, plastic pollution and ecobricks through the game. Secretary of the society, Munish Kundra and an environment lover Madhukar Varshney took lead in educating the children while also keeping them entertained with the game.

Munish says, “We made them learn in their own easy language. A snake bite indicated activity causing damage to the environment. On the other hand, ladder indicated activities and habits that help save the environment. The best part was that the kids were inquisitive and the winner, a kid named Shaurya was so happy with the feeling that he saved the environment. That is the learning we wanted to give them.”

According to Munish and Madhukar, more such events will be organised to spread awareness among kids. Madhukar says, “We should adopt the easiest way to touch the chord of sensitivity to make the kids feel the importance of environment and it’s protection. This was a success for us and we are now thinking to develop more such activities for the kids in the society.”
