Two thieves drove away with a Maruti Swift car on the night of Vijayadashmi (October 11) from Sector 122, Noida. The car was parked outside House No B-142. The theft was caught on a CCTV camera installed in one of the neighbouring houses.

Manpreet Singh, owner of the stolen car, told City Spidey that he returned home at 11 pm after watching Ravana dahan, and parked his car in front of his house before going in. When his mother woke up around 5.30 am the next day, she found the car missing. “I am praying to God that I somehow get my car back,” said Singh.

The footage shows two men coming in another Maruti Swift car. As one of them tries to open Singh’s car, the vehicle's security system goes off and the two run away. But they return a few minutes later and manage to make away with the car.

Shiv Kumar Tiwari, RWA president of Sector 122, said, “There are four CCTV cameras and 10 guards on duty during the day and the night for the 800 houses in the sector. But it’s not enough. Most residents do not pay maintenance charges, which is Rs 200 per month.”

Pakaj Panth, SHO of Phase III, told City Spidey that residents have lodged an FIR. “Investigation is under way and we will try our best to catch the thieves.”
