Why is the Plant-based diet so popular?

The idea of plant-based food started sometime in 2018 when some of the world's top kitchens started serving vegan meals and saw a spike in sales that indicated demand. Fast forward to 2020, when the global crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns made people prioritise health and well-being and reassess what they eat, again the vegan industry saw a boost.

Simran Chopra, a health coach, says, "2020 was the year when many people discovered plant-based products. There were new products which were vegan, from burgers and bakeries to pizzas and pastries."

She added, "A plant-based diet, as the name suggests, focuses on whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables, seeds, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices and everything that comes from plants. These food sources are high in fibre and bioactive compounds which are anti-inflammatory in nature. The reasons to opt for such a diet range from personal health and animal rights to environmental concerns related to factory farming. A holistic approach to better living, it's a friendlier alternative to a nutritious lifestyle with no room for desserts, fast food, processed meats, and refined grains. If we talk about the rising popularity of Plant-based diet The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact and put what was already a buoyant market into overdrive."

The plant-based diet

Millions of people across the globe have transitioned to plant-based diets for their numerous health benefits. In steering away from meat, dairy, and fish and towards fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, beans, nuts, and seeds, a vegan diet is naturally rich in nutrients and low in saturated fats.

A diet, enriched with plant-based foods, works to improve our well-being, and we say this confidently because it has been put to test for thousands of years. Some positive effects include more energy and a reduction in joint pain and weight. There's also mention of blood pressure and cholesterol going back to healthy levels. Don't you love hearing about how food becomes incredibly nourishing when we make healthy choices? We definitely do. It is also one of the many reasons why many people love a plant-based diet. It leads to a healthier lifestyle; however, we believe there is a need to be more aware of it. Only then we'd get to see plant-based foods seamlessly being incorporated into our daily diets.
