GreNo West: 'We are in urgent need of underpass', say residents

The residents of Greater Noida West and Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) are demanding an underpass at the Charmurti roundabout for quite some time now. The Greater Noida Authority has promised to expedite the project but the residents have their doubts.

In the meeting with GNIDA Chief Executive Officer, Narendra Bhooshan on February 14, 2022, NEFOWA had raised the problems that commuters face during evening rush hours at the Gaur City roundabout and demanded an underpass at the location. Residents shared that due to barricading at Charmurti roundabout, they have to travel extra kilometers while traveling towards NH 24. On August 19, 2021, Greater Noida Authority shared that the process to start construction of an underpass at Charmurti roundabout in Greater Noida West has been expedited.

According to GNIDA CEO, RITES Ltd inspected the area for the underpass in January. The tender will be released soon.

Manish Kumar, Senior Vice President NEFOWA says, "The Authority has assured us that the underpass will be constructed at the roundabout. However, last time, it was just a promise. Also, there is no follow up from the authority's side, nor any paperwork has been done. In a recent meeting with the CEO of Greater Noida Authority, we demanded better infrastructure for Greater Noida West."

As the population in GreNo West is increasing, so are the needs of the population. There are about seven malls to be opened in Greater Noida West. The Sector 71 underpass is open, the Parthala flyover will be open and now the Charmurti roundabout will become a bottleneck for the commuters. Population of Greater Noida West is approximately 3.5 to 4 lakhs.

While talking about the need for the underpass, Vikas Katiyar, a resident of Greater Noida and NEFOWA vice president says, "The underpass is urgently needed as it would streamline the traffic and help the commuters. The authority should work on this on  priority. Due to the barricading, commuters face a lot of problems.  We all have been waiting for the underpass for a long time."

Another resident, Anupam Mishra says, "In the name of smart city, Greater Noida West has zero infrastructure. We all have been demanding for an underpass for more than a year. The population of Greater Noida West is increasing day by day and the traffic situation has also become uncontrollable. Residents of Greater Noida West need these underpasses very urgently."
