Following the arrest of five naxalites on Saturday night, the Anti-terrorist Squad of UP Police arrested five more on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference in Sector 14A, Noida, on Sunday afternoon, Asim Arun, inspector general of UP ATS, said that a local resident informed the police about suspicious activities in Hindon Vihar Apartment, Sector 42, Noida.
“The local police looked into it and informed higher officials. When we became cetain of illegal activities, we conducted an operation on Saturday night. We arrested five persons from the spot with a huge cache of arms and detonators. Based on the details of interrogation, the police conducted a raid on Sunday morning in Sadarpur area and arrested four more Maoist suspects. One more was arrested from Chandauli," Arun said.
He added that the group was making a base in NCR region and was planning to commit crimes, such as robbery and abduction, to fund its activities.
UP ATS also recovered 45 gelatin sticks, which is used for making bombs, 125 detonators, four pistols, around 90 cartridges and 4 cars from the naxalites.
The police also confirmed the names of those arrested at the press conference. They have been identified as Ranjit Paswan (35), Krishna Kumar (42), Pawan Kumar (25), Suneel Kumar (25), Shailendra Kumar (41), Sachin Kumar (28), Suraj (22), Ashish (18), Brij Kishore (22) and Sunil Ravidas (30). Four of them are from Bihar while others are from Uttar Pradesh. The police also said that the arrested operated in Bihar and Jharkhand.
