An initiative to clean the banks of the River Yamuna was taken by DDA in the fourth event under Swachhta Abhiyaan on Sunday morning, 27th February 2022 at Qudsia Ghat. About 12 trucks of waste were collected during the event and safely disposed of.
DDA ‘s Vice Chairman Manish Kumar Gupta accompanied by more than 70-75 senior officers of the organisation came forward and led this campaign on Qudsia Ghat along the Yamuna near Kashmere Gate.
Enormous amounts of waste are generated during the festivities along the river banks in the form of puja material that gets trapped, eventually affecting the quality of the floodplains. The cleanliness drive took place with the help of the cleaning staff of North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) participated in cleaning a stretch of approximately 700-750mts along the river.
The last leg of this event themed around the 'Rejuvenation of River Yamuna floodplains' will witness two more events, to take place next Saturday and Sunday at Asita West - Yogabhyas and Avartan Rally near Old Delhi.
Several nature-oriented activities are being organised by Delhi Development Authority as a part of the celebration of ‘Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence.
