Women in Sector 50, Noida, gear up for Karva Chauth

On the eve of Karva Chauth, about 150 women residents in Sector 50, Noida, thronged the community centre to apply mehendi on October 18.

As part of the preparations, the RWA of the sector had sent out invitations to all women residents on October 16 and arranged for five mehendi artists for them free of cost from October 18 (Tuesday).

Sweety Kohli, who is going to celebrate her 29th Karva Chauth this year, said, "Mehendi is the biggest sign of marital harmony." She added that this was the seventh consecutive year that a number of women have preferred to apply mehendi at the community centre instead of going to the market. “Mehendi application gives me the opportunity to talk to my friends. It's a nice community feeling,” she added.

Saroj Gupta, another resident, said, “All of us will gather here tomorrow to celebrate Karva Chauth together. Celebrating in a group becomes important, as some of the rituals cannot be performed alone.”

“Rotation of the Karva Chauth thali is one of the popular ways of celebrating Karva Chauth in Punjabi families. In this, a group of women is essential, as one woman gives the thali to another and she passes it on to the next,” she added.

As women get immersed in the festive spirit, the RWA is also set to spice up the event. It will organise a competition for women with categories such as Best Dress, Best Hairstyle and Best Smile. One of the couples will also be selected as the Best Couple.
