Since Noida Authority stopped Ganga Jal supply last Wednesday for removing silt from the Ganga canal, residents of many sectors in Noida have been facing problems of low pressure and insufficient water supply to their households.

RWAs of sectors 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27 and other sectors have reported this problem to the Jal Division of the Noida Authority.

Residents say that normally water is supplied for three hours in the morning and three hours in evenings. But the actual time duration for which water is supplied at both the times does not exceed 30 minutes to an hour. This is insufficient for the households.

Pyare Lal, RWA president of Sector 20, said, “I just met officials of Jal Division and they assured me that they would fix the problem by today evening. If the problem is not resolved, we will be left with no other option, but to protest at the Jal Division office."

Manoj Kesari, RWA Secretary of Sector 26, told City Spidey that the state government calls Noida a world class city but residents are facing problems in getting basic amenities like water and electricity. “Residents have no choice but to buy bottled water for drinking purpose and to fulfil the daily requirements of the household. We are a harassed lot," Kesari added.

Rajeev Garg, RWA secretary of Sector 27, said that as the water pressure is very low, the residents living on first and second floors are facing an acute shortage of water supply. "We also made a complaint to the authorities but there is no improvement in the scenario," Garg added.

When City Spidey spoke to officials of Jal Division of Noida authority, they said that the process of cleaning silt takes one month’s time and it is done once every year. It’s also why Noida Authority is supplying tube well water to the city.

SK Srivastav, section officer of Jal Division, Noida Authority, denied that there was any problem regarding water supply. He told City Spidey that there are 182 tube wells generating water to the tune of 146 million litre per day while the six water harvesting wells generate 54 million litres per day.

“The present-day demand in Noida is 167 million litres per day and we are supplying more than that. There is no gap between demand and supply. If anyone has a problem, he or she should complain on the help line number of Jal Division of Noida Authority." Srivastav added.
