Lanes of GreNo West lost in dark stretches, residents complain

Greater Noida West: "Is GreNo West really smart city while its roads are still dark?" This question raised by the residents and the Noida Extension Flat Owners Welfare Association (NEFOWA) highlights the issue of dark stretches in Greater Noida West. Residents shared that the street lights on Charmurti to Surajpur road are not in working condition. The residents pointed out that the services lanes of Greater Noida West do not have street lights which makes them unsafe for residents."

On February 20, 2022, the Greater Noida Authority announced a plan to install fifty four thousand LED street lights in all the villages and sectors of Greater Noida within a year to increase the illumination and safety on the roads. In place of sodium lights, LEDs were to be installed in Greater Noida. However, according to residents, no new street lights have been installed till now.

On this subject, Manish Kumar, a resident and the Senior Vice President of NEFOWA says, “Greater Noida Authority announced to replace all sodium lights with LED lights. But no lights have been installed on the main roads and the service roads of Greater Noida West. This road from Ghaziabad to Surajpur is known as the NH-24 link road, and is the busiest road of this area, there is no source of illumination there after dark.”

Manish adds, “In this area, the sodium lights have not been changed with LED light. The Authority should install LED lights as soon as possible. Moreover, there are many lights that are not in working condition because of poor maintenance. Maintenance of these lights should be done in a timely manner.”

Manish Kumar also shared a tweet, “क्या ग्रेनो वेस्ट अँधेरी सडकों वाला  Smart City है? चारमूर्ति से सूरजपुर रोड पर बहुत सारे स्ट्रीट लाइट  ख़राब है और सर्विस रोड पर लाइट ही नहीं। मेन और सर्विस रोड पर  @OfficialGNIDA की LED परियोजना का शुरुआत कब होगा? @nbhooshan  @AmanDeepDuli @salilya38170605 @CMOfficeUP @UPGovt.”

Complaining about Noida Authority's lack of initiative, Vikas Katiyar, a resident of Spring Meadows says, “Every time, NEFOWA has to inform the authority about this issue. They should self-identify the issue and resolve them as soon as possible. Street lights should be checked every week.”

Gaurav Patel, resident of SRSG, Greater Noida says, “Budget and tenders for the street have been passed by the Greater Noida Authority. But the work of the authority does not stop there, they should monitor and look into it actively. The Greater Noida West is divided into zones and every zone has an officer in charge. The authority usually resolves the issue after residents highlight the issue, however, they take no action by themselves.”

Anupam Mishra, a resident of Ecovillage 2 says, “If authority gives a contract to the company, there is need to follow up and check their work, which is where the authority is lacking. When will authority take action by itself?  Every time we send videos and photographs of faulty lights. If any mishap happens, who will be responsible?”
