Noida: RWA Sector 51 unhappy with reduction in green area, writes to NA

Noida: The residents of Noida, Sector 51 are furious over Noida Authority for giving away 15 m corridor of Children's Park to a furniture company. To put forth their complain, they wrote a letter to the CEO, Noida Authority on March 16, 2022.

Noida Authority sold a vacant plot alongside Children's Park, Sector 51 to an International furniture company to construct a store. However, according to a survey by the Horticulture department of Noida Authority, the area of the corridor initially approved as 9 meters has now increased to 15 meters. This increased are will be covered by cutting 15 meters from the Children's Park.

RWA of Sector 51 shared that they and the authority agreed on cutting 22 trees from the area. According to the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the green area of any sector cannot be reduced. However, it is the misfortune of Sector 51 that a large part of the Children's Park was given to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation earlier. The Noida Authority is now working on making way for the corridor for a furniture company by further reducing the area of Children's Park.

They further shared that failing this, they will go to court and NGT against this decision. Residents might also physically oppose the cutting of trees for commercial purposes.

They shared a tweet, “@CeoNoida @CPCB_OFFICIAL @CMOfficeUP  @ChiefSecyUP @Satishmahanaup @UppcbN @UPPCBLKO RWA, Sec 51 Strongly  oppose to give way to IKEA by cutting 15 MTR land from Green area of  Children's Park sec 51, Noida.RWA again requests to CEO to reconsider  this decision & not reduce green area.”

Sanjeev Sharma, General Secretary Sector 51 RWA says, “The land of Bal Udyan, which was taken to Delhi Metro is now being used as a commercial establishment as Rama Banquet Hall. This area belonged to the Children's Park. It was a green area which is now  being used for commercial purposes. Sector 51 strongly opposes this further reduction in the green area. A Peepal tree, which is  very old & big, is also being removed. Similarly, the remaining 21 trees come in the way of this corridor. There are beautiful  palm trees which will also be cut. The authority should not reduce the area of green park.”

Rajiva Singh, NOFAA President says, “We always stand against any reduction of land which is earmarked as children's playing areas.  These children's parks are part of the approved master plans of Noida Authority.  Such modifications are not at all in the interest of children of the sector. We already have a dearth of playing areas for children in this area. Such moves are not welcome at all.
