Water bill crisis at Kunj Vihar Apartments

Dwarka: Water has become a topic of discussion these days in one of the societies of Dwarka, Kunj Vihar Apartments in Sector 12. The subject is not related to the supply of water but the water bill raised by the authority concerned that is Delhi Jal Board which is an amount more than two crores.

As informed by the residents and administrator of the society PK Khanna, the bill sent in 2019 was also more than one crore and again in 2022 February, it was sent with a total amount of more than two crores.

“We have written to DJB to rectify the bill and look into the matter as the amount is very big and is not justified,” said the administrator of the society PK Khanna. Khanna informed that a letter has also been written to DJB recently to take the matter into concern.

As gathered, the society was allotted in 2015 and the bill is for the period since 2015. Geeta Sharma, a resident of the society who has been following up on the issue and who managed the publishing of the issue in media shared, “The society does not have a management body since 2018. Till now, eight administrators have been appointed. In this period, the subject was not taken into concern. The previous administrator would not take the subject seriously. As a result of the lack of a proper management body, we have been slammed a 2 crore water bill. The bill is in the period when there is 20-kilo litre water free for each household by the Delhi Government. All residents are discontent with the approach of the DJB. This bill must be rectified. We have asked the area MLA to look into the matter and resolve our issue.”

Residents are feeling burdened with the amount of the bill and they are seeking any help from the authority for its rectification. Yash Vardhan a resident of the society said, “ We have about 200 flats here and if we divide the bill for each flat, it would be an amount one lakh per flat. This is a big amount amidst an ongoing pandemic crisis plus when the government is providing 20kl water free, to each family. The authorities must consider our issue and provide a solution.”

The residents of the society inform that the metre of DJB at the society has been in a defunct state and is not working so the bill has been made by the DJB according to its prescribed norms.
One of the DJB officials says on the condition of anonymity that if the bill has been made without a metre, it would be genuine as per law. He further added that the DJB has taken the matter into concern and the needful would be done accordingly.
