Schools reopening: happy reunion for many in Delhi NCR

Schools are reopening for all classes after a gap of two years. April 1, 2022, is the day when school doors will reopen. From what we have seen so far, kids are excited and parents are looking forward to it.

Covid affected everyone's life, especially that of school-going children. Online classes meant no physical education, no music period, no computer labs, no annual day competitions and no sharing lunch with friends. After two years, many are happy to be returning to class.

Anusha (11) who will attend class 7 physical classes soon, is on top of the world. Says she, "I am very happy to be going to school. The new uniform, school bags and new books are making me even more excited."

Angad (14), a ninth-grade student said, "Going to school physically would be good for our studies as we would be able to spend more time studying as compared to online classes. It will be good for our eyesight because long screen time has made our eyes weak. Again studying through offline books will be fun. I would be able to enjoy the sports activities in the school."

Meenal Gupta (39), who is a primary teacher in a Dwarka school says, "The past two years have made us realize the importance of regular schooling. Everyone should be happy with the schools' reopening. However, all schools must implement Covid appropriate protocols."

A transport in-charge from a school in Dwarka says, "Schools reopening is a piece of really good news for fourth-grade employees such as school maids, guards, uniform vendors, van drivers, peons who were at home for the past two years and struggling for basic needs. Physical classes are a gateway to employment for all of them. We have called back our school buses drivers and helpers."

However, lockdowns and no physical classes had a different implication for the ones who had only started school.

Avishka (age 5), a student of class Pre Primary is not happy with the reopening of schools. Avishka has never attended school since she took admission to nursery in April 2020 when only physical classes were taking place. Her mother Urvashi Chauhan (33) says, "Online classes have made her shy, introverted, and created a sense of hesitation with formal classroom settings."
