Dwarka: Parking issue aggravating in Sector 12

Dwarka: If you happen to visit Sector 12 in Dwarka, you would witness major parking issues. Be it inner lanes, the roads of the market areas or near schools, almost half of the width of the road is being used by vehicles as parking space.

From the chowk of Sector 12/13 towards KM Chowk, on both sides of the road, vehicles can be seen parked, leaving a narrow space for commuters. Seema Sharma, a resident of Sector 12 says, “From 11 am till late evening, it is quite difficult to get a clear passage to commute through the road near Dwarka International School. I have started to avoid going through that road, especially in the evenings.”

Apart from this stretch, vehicles can be seen parked in tow-away zones too. In the service lanes, vehicles are parked on both sides leaving a narrow space in the middle for commuters. The societies in sector 12, pocket 8 have fixed boards in their service lanes announcing that the space is for parking of vehicles of the society. In a similar way, it can be seen that the open space in front of the Baoli in Sector 12 has been converted into an unauthorised parking space. People of Gangotri Apartments, Sector 12, adjacent to the Baoli, said that due to lack of space inside the society, the open area is being used as parking space.

The lack of parking spaces reflects poor planning by the authorities concerned. Residents who are using the open space and roads as parking are of the opinion that as the population of the sub-city is growing, there is a need for more parking spaces.

On the subject, traffic police officials say that they impose fines and tow away the vehicles regularly. They also said that for awareness, 'no parking' boards have been fixed at different locations.
