Burning of dry leaves, a perennial issue in summer

Dwarka: On 9 April, 2022, at around 8.15 pm, a heap of dry leaves near the back lane of Sector 12 Pocket 2, Dwarkadheesh Apartments caught fire. The incident was immediately reported to the fire department and the situation was taken care of on time.

President of RWA, Dwarkadheesh Apartments, Anjana Sinha says, “This could have been a serious issue if the fire brigade had not reached on time. This issue makes the area prone to more such incidents. It is unfortunate and sad to see that no one is doing anything about it. This is a serious issue and the civic bodies concerned should look into it.”

The issue of the burning of dry leaves is not new in Dwarka. Over the years, it has remained persistent. RWAs of the sub-city are worried that such incidents as these are not just unsafe for the residents but also contribute to air pollution. General Secretary of DDA SFS flats, Sector 5, Mahesh Gupta says, “There is no improvement in the situation and such fires break out repeatedly. DDA and SDMC both should work with RWAs to solve this perennial issue."

RWAs are saying that they are ready to help the civic bodies to get a solution to this problem. President of Ganpati Apartments, Sector 9, KS Bhati says, “We are managing our dry leaves and all other societies must do that as well. On the other hand, a mechanism should be developed by the authorities including residents bodies, NGOs activists to get a permanent solution.”
