Summer skincare tips to avoid tanning

Prolonged exposure to the sun increases melanin levels in the skin

Summer skincare tips to avoid tanning

We have arrived at the peak of Summers. The temperature between 10 am and 4 pm remains well beyond 38 degrees Celsius in most parts of the country. The hot rays of the sun and the dry winds can take a toll on your skin. Prolonged exposure to the sun increase melanin levels in the skin which may result in sunburn, suntan, and signs of skin ageing.

To protect your skin from tanning, dullness and wear and tear, you must take extra precautions. Here are a few points to consider-

Drink a lot of water

High temperatures result in sweating which can dehydrate our skin. This can not only harm the skin but your overall health. Always carry a water bottle with you, can have coconut water and add fruits like melon, watermelon and cucumber to stay hydrated. They will help to maintain the level of water in the body.

Use Sunscreen

Sunscreen is a must in summer to protect yourself from the harmful rays of the sun. Prolonged exposure to the sun can make your skin dull, cause skin tanning and result in premature ageing and wrinkles. The right time to apply sunscreen is 20 minutes before going out in the sun.

A simple shed over your head can protect your skin and hair. An umbrella can itself act as a sunscreen protecting your harmful UV rays and sun rays. It will also provide relaxation to your eyes.

Apply Serum

Application of vitamin C serum in the morning is beneficial for your skin as it is rich in antioxidants and reduces hyperpigmentation. Use this serum right after the cleanser and moisturizer and don't skip the SPF right after the serum for better results.

Exfoliate the skin

Exfoliating can help to prevent suntan and help to clean the pores deeply. You should use the scrub once a week to remove the impurities from the skin and make it look radiant. A scrub will help to remove the buildup of dirt from the face and the neck.

Use a homemade face mask

Every day, you should apply a face mask for at least 5-10 minutes. This will help repair the skin cells and help to make the skin healthier or shinier. Take 1 teaspoon of fuller earth powder 'multani mitti', 1/2 teaspoon of sandalwood powder. Mix it with 1 teaspoon of tomato juice and a 1/2 tsp of aloe vera juice then make a paste of it and apply it all over the face and the neck. Leave it for 5-10 min then wash it off with cold water.

Don't forget to protect your eyes and lip

Don't forget to apply the SPF under your eye and lips as these parts are exposed and darken easily. You should carry sunglasses to protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun.
