Cultural programmes mark the occasion as several dignitaries give speeches at Chitrakoot Apartments, Sector 22.

Hundreds of people attended the 6th annual day celebrations of Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi, a residents’ body comprising of mainly elderly citizens of sectors 22 and 23 in Dwarka. The event was organised at the community hall of Chitrakoot Apartments, Sector 22, on November 5.

During the event, Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi (SDKS) presented the year’s annual activities through speeches by its members. It also displayed an exhibition of photographs of its activities related to the environment and social welfare. Cultural programmes, a session of poetry and several other activities were also organised.

Speeches on health and social issues were also given, such as “Pain Management” by Dr Pushpinder Singh Mehta, Indian Spinal Injury Centre, Vasant Kunj; “Aware, Committed And Ethical Community Is Need Of Time” by Vijay Saluja, former chief engineer NDMC and member of SDKS; and “Change Your Lifestyle" by Parminder Khetrpal, a resident of New Kanchanjunga Apartments, Sector 23.

The event began with a welcome speech by Shashi Kapoor, president of SDKS and a resident of Dream Apartments, Sector 22. It was followed by a prayer and an activity report of the year by PB Mishra, general secretary of SDKS and a resident of Chitrakoot Apartments, and a financial review by DC Mathur, secretary of SDKS and a resident of New Kanchanjunga Apartments, Sector 23.

SA Naqvi, an activist, researcher, convenor of Citizens Front for Water Democracy and president of Water Workers Alliance, was the chief guest at the event. In his address, he spoke about the water crisis and the need for action from the government on environmental issues such as pollution. He appealed to residents and social organisations to join hands for the environment’s preservation. He also praised SDKS for its work on safeguarding the environment in the area.

Many dignitaries were present at the event. They included Sudha Sinha, secretary of Federation of CGHS Dwarka, Ram Gopal Sharma, vice-president of Chitrakoot Apartments, Mahboob Ali from horticulture department, DDA, and Diwan Singh, a social activist who is president of Natural Heritage First and a resident of Shaman Apartments, Sector 23. Sushil Kumar, former president of Dwarka Forum and a resident of Radhika Apartments, Sector 14, Raje Kurup, president of Hello Mom, and SS Mann, vice-president of SDKS and a member of management of Sadbhavna Apartments, Sector 22, also attended the event.
