Vinai Kumar Saxena appointed new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi

Delhi: Vinai Kumar Saxena was appointed as the new Lieutenant Governor of NCT of Delhi on May 23, 2022. The decision comes days after Anil Baijal, ex Lt. Governor resigned from his office citing personal reasons. Saxena's term will begin as soon as he assumes the charge of the office.

As gathered by the government release, Saxena is the Chairperson of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, an organisation under the Ministry of MSME responsible for generating employment opportunities in rural areas through implementing khadi and village industry programmes.

The statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said that President Ram Nath Kovind has accepted Baijal’s resignation as the Delhi L-G and appointed Vinai Kumar Saxena as the new Lieutenant Governor. “The President of India has been pleased to appoint Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena to be the Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office," the statement said.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter and wished best wishes to Vinai Kumar Saxena. He further wished good luck to Anil Baijal for the future. Baijal, a 1969-batch IAS officer, was appointed as the 21st Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in December 2016 after the sudden resignation of Najeeb Jung.
