Noida: 7X Welfare, a group of road safety volunteers in Noida are long demanding the installation of traffic lights and a zebra crossing at crossroads 116/78 at sector 79 from the Noida Authority. They raised this demand yet again during their Sunday road safety drive on May 29, 2022.

According to 7X Welfare, road 116/78 which connects Vishwakarma Marg to FNG road (Faridabad Noida Ghaziabad) is one of the busiest roads in Noida. Brajesh Sharma, the founder of the 7X welfare team says that in the absence of traffic signals, the said crossroad has become an accident-prone area.

He says, "While the work of installing cameras at various intersections of Noida is going on at a fast pace, there are certain intersections in the city where there is no traffic signal. In the absence of traffic signals, every two-wheeler or four-wheeler tries to run as fast as they can. Many accidents are taking place at this intersection. There is an urgent need to install traffic signals and zebra crossings to prevent jams and accidents."

7X says that they had mentioned the proposal of traffic signals at crossroad 116/78 in 2019 to the Noida Authority but the work was postponed due to the delay in the construction of the 200-meter road. They allege that the construction of the road is still not complete.

CP Mishra, traffic inspector, Noida says, "At first, there was less traffic but it has increased in the area. A traffic signal should be installed soon as accidents are taking place on this crossroad."

We reached out to Sunil Kashyap, Junior Engineer, Noida Authority on the matter. He says, "The tender for road 116/78 is in process. The third bid will be issued again within the next 5 days. The work may start in the next 15 days."
