Cycles out, Ghaziabad!

RWA Federation Ghaziabad organised the tenth car-free day on November 10.

Most residents gave their automobiles some rest and used bicycles to commute. Officials from Ghaziabad police, the administration, civic authorities and members of the federation took out a bicycle rally from the official residence of the SSP Ghaziabad till the police headquarters in Raj Nagar.

Colonel TP Tyagi, chairman of RWA Federation Ghaziabad, said declaring school holidays and stopping construction work were not solutions to the air-pollution problem. "Denouncing the use of fossil fuels and replacing them with greener alternatives can change things on a larger scale," he added.

Shravan Kumar, SP (crime) of Ghaziabad police, was also part of the event. “The participation of the administration and government officials has had a positive impact and drawn a lot of public attention. Apart from being eco-friendly, cycling also has health benefits.”

On a lighter note, the SP said that the bicycle ride, which he had taken after a long time, reminded him of his college days. "I took a ride down memory lane today, thanks to the initiative," he added.
