Municipal Corporation of Delhi initiates Zero Waste Colony campaign

Delhi: The Central Zone of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has started a competition/campaign for Zero Waste Colony for better sanitation management.  RWAs of the area have been invited for active participation. The motive behind this campaign is to ensure positive participation of RWAs in sanitation & waste management so that a better sanitation system can be made available on the basis of public participation in the area.

Deputy Commissioner Central Zone Danish Ashraf informed that a Google form has been issued for the registration of RWAs of the area, which can be easily filled and submitted through mobile or computer. Along with this, a QR code has been created, which can also be scanned and filled into the Google form. He said that this positive initiative started by the MCD is in line with the vision of Prime Minister's Swachh Bharat and Swachh Survekshan Guidelines 2023. For this initiative there may be different models of rag-pickers integration, segregation of waste, plastic and e-waste disposal, IEC campaign, etc across the colonies, he added.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the urban local body wants to promote the vision of citizens' participation and their role in waste management so that constructive initiative is being taken by the MCD. He said that sanitation management is definitely the responsibility of MCD but public participation is necessary to maintain cleanliness. The Deputy Commissioner said that various efforts are being made to bring about behavioral change among the people towards cleanliness and this campaign started by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is a reflection of these efforts.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the RWAs doing better work towards zero waste management would be rewarded by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and other RWAs would be encouraged to do good management.
