Sleepy at work? Try these hacks!

It might be challenging to stay awake at work sometimes, especially while working late or maybe after a fulfilling lunch. Feeling exhausted at work is typical, but it could lower performance and productivity.

While many people sip on coffee to stay active during work, it may not work for everyone. That's why, we have brought you some hacks to bid adieu to lousiness and stay active through your work hours.

A shot of caffeine

An energy boost from a shot of coffee may just be what you need to get to get instant boost of energy if you’re feeling lethargic at the office. Because caffeine is a stimulant, it makes the brain and nervous system active. For a coffee, go to the break room or stroll a short distance to a nearby café.

Take care not to overdo it. Caffeine consumption can cause excessive jitteriness and overstimulation, which may have reverse effect and may reduce productivity.

Take activity breaks

Sitting for long period of time at a desk might wear you out. You might feel more alert and think more clearly by being active. If you can, get up and move around every few hours. Try taking that call while taking a stroll around your office for instance. Try doing small workouts that you can perform at your desk as well.

Take a power nap

A small power nap can give you a boost of energy and may help you think clearly. You can take your nap right after your lunch or anytime you feel a little lousy.

Listen to upbeat music

Being forced to work in silence might be annoying. You might feel as if you’re about to nod off. Play energetic music to jolt your brain.

To obtain permission, first, confirm with your employer. If it doesn’t interfere with your work, your manager might be okay with you listening to music. Obtain permission to listen to music through headphones if you cannot switch on the radio; the more upbeat the  music, the better.

Keep your workspace bright

If you’re lucky to work in a space with windows, open the shades and let in some natural light. Sunlight in your office can improve your alertness and energy. If you don’t have a window around your workspace, get approval to bring a lightbox and position it near your desk. This emits a low UV light and helps hold your wake cycle, making you feel less tired.

Splash cold water on your face

Go to the restroom and spray cold water on your face if you’re having trouble staying awake at work. You can get re-energised and receive a much-needed splash of energy by using this quick and easy hack.

Stretch

If getting up and moving about is not an option, some simple stretching at the desk or workplace may be helpful. Simple exercises  that can help to stretch out your tight muscles, keep the blood flowing, and keep the energetic body include:

Rolling the neck side to side
Twisting the torso
Stretching the arms above the head
