Hard Cash Day 10: Can you withdraw cash from Noida petrol pumps?

Petrol pump owners in the city are clueless about the government's decision that cash can now be dispensed at select outlets through SBI card swipe or PoS machines.

Hard Cash Day 10: Can you withdraw cash from Noida petrol pumps?

In an attempt to tackle the long queues at banks and ATMs, the government on November 17 announced that cash would be dispensed at select petrol pumps, where point-of-sale (POS) or card swipe machines of SBI are already available.

The cash can be had by swiping the debit cards through the POS.

Though the system has been initiated from November 18, no petrol pump in Noida was seen offering the service.

Neeraj Singh, a resident of Sector 27, told City Spidey that when he came to know of the announcement from newspapers, he rushed to the petrol pump near Great India Place, in Sector 38 A, but the facility hadn't started there. "I then visited some other petrol pumps in the area, but it was the same story everywhere," he added.

Surprisingly, most of the petrol pumps did not even know of the scheme. Bobby Kumar, a petrol pump owner in Sector 14, said he had no knowledge of such an announcement, and no circular had come from RBI or Indian Oil. "If such an announcement has indeed been made, we will have to go by the orders. But we, too, need the new currency, as we have been accepting the old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes."
