Gurugram: Sector 14 residents demand removal of barbed fencing from park

Gurugram: The residents of Sector 14, Gurugram, are complaining about the low barbed wire fencing in their park. Residents say that it causes discomfort to them and demand the removal of the barbed fencing.

According to residents, the barbed fencing on the park's boundary wall was done without any consultation with them. They also allege that a huge amount of taxpayers' money has been wasted on this cause. Kalyan Singh Sharma, an Advocate, (Rtd.) IRS and a resident of Sector 14, Gurugram says, "Although the fencing was done to not let anti-social and unwanted elements inside the park, that purpose wasn't fulfilled. The fencing is broken at so many places, anyone could enter the park."

As told by the residents, on one side of the fencing is the park and on another side is a parking area. Residents complain of getting hurt from the fencing. Hoshiar Singh, a resident of Sector 14, Gurugram, says, "As we get out of our cars, we usually tend to get hurt if we are not conscious about the fencing." While talking about his conversation with T.L. Sharma, Chief Engineer of Horticulture department of Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, he says, "T.L. Sharma came here for the inspection of the barbed fencing and he agreed that the fencing should be removed to avoid any accidents."

The resident shares that the area of the park is already small and fencing further reduces that area. They also share that some birds have also been hurt due to the fencing. Wing Cdr (rtd) Suresh, another resident of sector 14, Gurugram, says, "It is occupying a lot of space, children can be hurt due to barbed fencing." The residents also add barbed fencing is required for heavy security purposes which are not necessary for common areas like parks. Suresh adds, "Our park is located in the middle of our society which is already secured, barbed fencing is not required here."
