Election Commissioner announces poll dates for Prateek Laurel

JP Singh, the returning officer, Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Registrar with Cooperative Society, Gautam Budh Nagar, has announced the poll date for management body of Prateek Laurel Apartments, a society in Sector 120, Noida. The election will be held on December 11 this year.

It has been over six months that the society's management body and residents of the society have been caught in a deadlock over the issue of fresh elections.

In April 2016, the management body had conducted election of three new members to replace three old ones. This move was strongly opposed by a section of residents who were insisting on the election of all the 10 members. The residents then went on to lodge a complaint with the Deputy Registrar, Meerut.

The complaint said that the AOA had conducted elections in April 2016 after its tenure ended in March 2016, which had violated a society bye-law according to which the date of the election has to be declared in the AGM before the board completes tenure of one year.

Acting on the complaint, the Deputy Registrar dissolved the society's AOA.

The returning officer has written to Prashant Tiwari, chairman of Prateek Group, asking him to submit the list of apartment owners and vote per cent within three days.

Prateek Laurel Apartments is a huge residential society that houses a total of 1,530 flats. The election, once held, is expected to put an end to a long-standing face-off between residents and the society's management body.
