To clear pending arrears from homeowers, Ghaziabad Development Authority has set up camp offices at Gyan Khand and Niti Khand to accept payments in the defunct currency until November 24.

Hard Cash Day 13: GDA accepts maintenance dues in old notes

In a bid to clear pending maintenance dues from Indirapuram households, Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has started taking payments in the old 500- and 1,000-rupee notes.

According to officials, GDA is owed approximately Rs 20-25 crore in maintenance charges from various areas under its maintenance. The payments can be made until November 24.

An allottee can pay both the latest bill and the arrears, if any. To pay, the owner needs to visit the GDA camp offices at Gyan Khand and Niti Khand in Indirapuram with the bill and a bank challan from Punjab National Bank, Indirapuram. The challan and the bill will be verified and stamped by supervisors at the camps. It can then be paid at the bank.

Speaking to City Spidey, Chakresh Jain, superintending engineer, GDA, said the verification of the bill and the challan is necessary to avoid cases of advance or excess payment. So far, the camps have received queries from about 20 individuals, while about eight have already paid up.

When asked about the extension of the payment date, Jain said it would depend on government directives.
