Does your society require you to buy parking space for two-wheelers? Probably not. But in Stellar Jeevan, a residential society in Sector 1, Greater Noida West, residents who wish to park their two-wheelers inside the premises need to buy parking space for them.
The cost of the space is Rs 15,000, plus service tax. Residents say that no society in the NCR has separate parking for two-wheelers, and it is only this builder that is making residents pay for two-wheeler parking. The builder recently issued a notice saying that the price of two-wheeler parking space would be revised.
Sudesh Malik, a resident, said, “There are times when residents who haven’t bought parking space have been stopped by the builder's staff from entering the premises with their two-wheelers. A group of us met Greater Noida Authority officials and the district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar, but the problem is yet to be solved.”
When City Spidey took up the issue with Ravi Mohan Sethi, chairman of the Stellar group, he said, “We are selling bike-parking space to make parking in the society systematic. We are not putting pressure on the residents, but if someone has two vehicles, it is important that they buy two separate spaces.” Thirty people so far have bought two-wheeler parking space in the society.
On being asked about the builder’s staff stopping residents from entering the society, he said that vehicles without parking stickers were not allowed in the society. “Who knows if they are residents or thieves? Forty per cent of flats are now occupied and we need to put some check in place,” he added.
