I'puram: Sex racket busted near Gaur Green City The area from where the sex worker was caught is seen littered with contraceptives

Residents of Gaur Green City in Indirapuram nabbed a sex worker on November 27 from an area adjacent to the society, busting an operation that had been going on for months.

The residents had gone to the area near the Noida-Indirapuram underpass, close to Kala Patthar park, to put out a fire in an illegal garbage dump, when they caught the sex worker. The "customers", however, managed to flee.

The underpass near NH 24 — close to Gaur Green City and Mahagun Mansion — had been transformed into an open brothel. The entire area was found littered with contraceptives. Mostly people from lower-income rungs, such as rickshaw pullers, daily labourers and workers from nearby societies, visited the spot.

The local businesses around the area often threw their garbage here, hence not many people ventured into the area. Additionally, the dense undergrowth there made the place ideal for such activities.

"This has been going on for a long time. I have seen people engaging in obscenities under the cover of tall undergrowth. The police or the administration seems to be doing nothing about it," said a passer-by, who said he used the route often.

The sex worker said she had first come to the spot from Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad. When questioned, she said, "I am doing this to provide for my children. I was sent here along with three to four other girls. We charge Rs 150 for the services."

An elderly woman, also nabbed by residents, confessed to being the pimp. She was sitting on the other side of the highway. "We have been coming here for months now, and we bring these girls from the nearby villages," she confessed.

The local police arrived at the spot after residents informed the Shipra Sun City police outpost.

"We have taken cognizance of the matter and will increase patrolling in the areas that are dark and deserted. We will also try to identify more such spots," said Sheelesh Kumar, SHO, Indirapuram police station.

Jigyasu Pun, president of Gaur Green City, said, "Thank god this racket has been busted! A lot of the balconies faced the area. We don't want our children to be exposed to such obscenities."
