Dwarka: After almost two years of restricted celebrations, the residents of Dwarka are all set to celebrate Janmashtami with gusto and enthusiasm. Many activities are scheduled for Janmashtami on August 18 and August 19, 2022, including Dahi handi competitions.

CitySpidey talked to some RWAs, residents, and temple managements to learn about how they are celebrating this festival.

"No Janamashtami festival is complete without young children dressing up as Gopi, Radhika, and Kanha. So, we're setting up a fancy dress contest for young children. The ladies group of the society will prepare prasad and sing kirtan as part of the festivities as they welcome the Lord," says Vinod Kumar Garg, RWA President of Brahma Appartments, Sector 7 Dwarka.

P.S. Singh, RWA Secretary of Rajasthan Appartments, Sector 4 Dwarka says, "Every year the Janmashtami celebration is what we all look forward to but the last 2 years were very difficult for all of us because of Covid. But this time we are more excited to welcome Lord Krishan. Bhajan Sandhya, Krishna Jhula, Krishna Jhanki, and many other cultural events are scheduled for the day in our society. Especially kids in our society are very excited to dress up and perform to the songs of lord Krishna."

Popular temples of Dwarka such as ISKCON Dwarka and Golok Dham are ready to welcome Lord Krishna. The rituals will be performed on August 19, 2022 at ISKCON, Dwarka. The maha abhishek will begin at 10 p.m., and bhog will be presented at midnight. However, celebrations will take place with special arrangements are being made to ensure Covid safety.

Prabhu Amogh Lila Das, vice president of Dwarka ISKCON temple, says " The pandal is ready and lots of cultural activities will take place such as dancing, children skit where they will show the 'Krishan Lila'. Because this is 2022 so, a number of 2 thousand and twenty-two items will offer as maha bhog to lord Krishna. Charna Amrit and maha bhog will be distributed to people at 12:30 am midnight, after lord Krishna's birth."

Sanjay Goel, a member of Golok Dham temple team, says "We all are ready and waiting to welcome lord Krishna. Bhajan, Kirtan, and darshan will start on August 18. But this time, we are not making a special sitting outside the temple area as Covid cases are rising again. So, people can come and enjoy the Janmashtami celebration with all the faith and love for Natkhat Kanha."

Deepa Singh, a resident of Sector 12 Dwarka, says "I'm especially looking forward to the 56 bhog, dahi handi, and to dance on the bhajans of Krishna. Also, I'm excited to see the decoration of how Krishna idols are decorated in ISKCON and Golok Dham. But people need to wear masks and maintain the social distancing throughout the celebration because of Covid."

Rohit Vyas, a resident of Dwarka Sector 10 says, "I'm ready to welcome my lord but with all the safety measures. Enjoy the festival but with we all need to come together to avoid any kind of carelessness towards our health."
