East Delhi residents welcome move to provide heaters to guards

The RWAs and cooperative group housing societies in East Delhi have welcomed Central Pollution Control Board’s appeal to provide electric heaters to security guards this winter. The advisory was issued on November 26.

The intent of CPCB’s request was to prevent the open burning of waste or biomass by security guards to keep themselves warm in the bitter Delhi winters. Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, too, supported the move, appealing to all households in the city to provide electric heaters to the staff.

To know how the city reacted to the advisory, City Spidey reached out to several RWAs and societies in Mayur Vihar Phase I, Mayur Vihar Phase I Extension, Vasundhara Enclave and IP Extension.

Rajeev Batra, secretary of Kalash Vihar Apartments in Patparganj, said, “On November 27, I went to the security office at Gate No 1 and instructed them not to burn wood or any other waste. I also assured them that we would provide them electric heaters this winter.”

Environmental specialist Anil Pandey, also the president of the Federation of Vasundhara Enclave CGHS, said, “Residents are aware of the deteriorating air quality in the city, and they support any move that will even remotely help curb pollution. The fact is that the burning of waste still continues — just launching a Swachh Bharat Clean India app or talking about it will not stop people from doing so.”
