Hard Cash Day 22: Band, baaja, broke!

A wedding procession from Noida, Sector 10, to Kalyan Puri in Delhi was kept waiting for the groom, who in turn was waiting in a bank queue for cash.

Hard Cash Day 22: Band, baaja, broke!

The wedding procession in Sector 10, Noida, is all decked up and ready to head out for the marriage hall in Kalyan Puri in Delhi. Well, almost. Because the bridegroom is not ready. Far from it, in fact. He has been standing in a queue at the bank since 7 am, trying to withdraw cash.

"Around 3 pm a bank employee announced that they were out of cash for the day," said Rajendra Singh, the bridegroom. "After complaining to the police, the bank finally did shell out Rs 24,000, but it is grossly insufficient."

Vijay Singh, the groom's father, told City Spidey that the cash crunch had disrupted all their plans for the wedding.

"I wanted to buy the bride a gift, but I could not as I don't have any cash," said Sunita Singh, the groom's sister. The groom's elder brother, Naresh Singh, said they were in a soup, as everyone from the brass band to the bus owners were demanding payment in cash.
