Gurgaon holds candlelight march for raped minor

The police remains clueless about the culprits who brutally raped and killed a 4-year-old girl in Gurgaon. Various social organisations held a candle-lit march on MG Road to protest against the lack of prompt action by the police.

The protesters demanded immediate arrest and a death sentence for the rapists. They also demanded a fast-track court for trial.

Social activist Rituraj said, "The government's slogan of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' [Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter] is an empty promise. If you can't even protect the girls, how can you talk about educating them! The police has failed to provide even basic security for women."

Gurgaon police spokesperson, ACP Manish Sehgal, said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had been formed to expedite investigation. He assured that the killers would be arrested soon.

The victim had been missing since November 24 evening, and was found dead at a vacant plot near Omaxe Mall on Sohna Road. A post-mortem report confirmed rape.

The police met with various RWAs on November 27 on the case, and discussed measures to prevent such incidents in future.
