Delhi: Roads in Pitampura and Rohini to be strengthened and beautified

New Delhi: The Delhi government is trying to focus on the quality of Delhi Roads. In view of the same, Deputy Chief Minister and PWD Minister Manish Sisodia approved the various road strengthening projects worth rupees 13.66 crores recently for North-West Delhi. Under these projects, 9 roads in Pitampura and 12 roads in Rohini Sector 3, 5, 6 & 7 will be redeveloped and strengthened by the Public Works Department. A total of 16.224 kms will be covered under this project including both areas.

Detailing about the projects, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “Due to increase in heavy traffic movement and completion of more than their useful lifespan period, these roads have deteriorated at various places and quality of the surface has worsened. Taking cognizance of the condition of roads, PWD officials have been asked to begin the strengthening of roads in Pitampura and Rohini immediately.”

Manish Sisodia added that the Kejriwal government is determined to provide safe and pleasant commuting experience to all in Delhi. For this, PWD is continuously getting the roads of Delhi assessed by experts and initiating projects to strengthen them.

The Dy CM further directed the officials to expedite the work of road strengthening projects and ensure that no inconvenience is caused to the common public during the construction work.

Under these aforementioned projects, along with strengthening of roads, the Public Works Department (PWD) will also have to ensure maintenance and upkeep of pavements, central verges and service lanes of the entire road stretch, including other allied works such as lane marking, whitewashing of parapet walls/railing etc. The said project will not only provide a better commuting experience but will also improve interconnectivity in the area and save time.

The road strengthening project will include-

-> re-carpeting of roads
-> comprehensive maintenance and upkeep of pavements, central verges and service lanes
-> Allied works such as lane marking, providing glow studs, whitewashing of parapet walls/railing etc.
-> Development of greenery on the central verge and either side of the road.
-> Maintenance of road aesthetics such as road furniture, pedestrian pathways, LED lights etc.
