Delhi: Rainy morning brings relief from the heat

Delhi woke up to a grey sky after light overnight rain spells over the city. The month's lowest temperature 22.5 degrees was recorded this morning. Light showers were reported in various parts of the city on September 16, 2022. After days of a hot and humid climate, the showers brought relief from the heat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a forecast at 9 am predicting light rain in some areas of the National Capital over the next coming hours, including the India Gate, Lodhi Road, Defence Colony, and Lajpat Nagar area. The temperature predicted was between 22-32 degree Celsius.

Delhi Traffic Police has advised commuters to plan their journey accordingly amidst rains. Commuters have complained of traffic jams at certain places: Azadpur metro station to the underpass, Wazirpur towards Asok Vihar and Sant Nagar Burari area.

Weather forecast departments predict more rainfall over the next two days. As per the IMD's extended range projection, a western disturbance and its association with monsoon breezes could cause rainfall over northwest India from September 22 to 28, and rainfall is likely to be above average over northwest India during the week.
