Prasoon Joshi is a leading name in Bollywood with his contribution as a lyricist and dialogue writer. He is the chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification and the CEO of McCann group of advertising.
Born in Uttarkhand, Prasoon grew up in a strong cultural environment. Both of Joshi’s parents are professional classical singers. Prasoon published his first book Main Aur Woh at the age of 17. After an MBA degree, he pursued his love for art and culture and started with a career in advertising. His early experiences brought keen knowledge of the Indian pulse, which formed the basis of all his creations.

“Tu Bin Bataye Mujhe Le Chal Kahin,” this song from Rang De Basanti melted many hearts with its resplendent lyrics and music that soothed. The song became an anthem of love for youth. Along with that, “Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gayi,” from Ghajini is a song to remember for its charm and its beautiful relevance in the film. Rang de Basanti’s music was in every way pathbreaking. Joshi has shared on his portfolio how the song “Luka Chupi” was discussed with AR Rahman before being penned down. And as music and the legendary Lata Mangeshkar voice were added to the lyrics, even the man who wrote broke into tears. “Luka Chhupi” was also considered for Academy Award for Best Original Song nomination.
The very next year, Joshi wrote another great song on motherhood, “Main kabhi batlata nahi, par andhere se darta hoon main maa.” The song took thousands to tears. He received a National Award for his lyrics in Taare Zameen Par.
