Motherhood

Rang de Basanti’s music was in every way pathbreaking. Joshi has shared on his portfolio how the song “Luka Chupi” was discussed with AR Rahman before being penned down. And as music and the legendary Lata Mangeshkar voice were added to the lyrics, even the man who wrote broke into tears. “Luka Chhupi” was also considered for Academy Award for Best Original Song nomination.

The very next year, Joshi wrote another great song on motherhood, “Main kabhi batlata nahi, par andhere se darta hoon main maa.” The song took thousands to tears. He received a National Award for his lyrics in Taare Zameen Par.

Revolution

“Aandhiyon se jhagad rahi hai lau meri,
Ab mashalon se bad rahi hai lau meri”

We gathered through his portfolio that Prasoon Joshi felt that Rang De Basanti gave him an opportunity to understand the mindset of today’s youth. The lyrics of the tracks did not just strike a chord with the audience but also allowed the movie to move ahead with the story effortlessly.

Imagination

“Kuch khushbuyen, Yaadon ke jungal se beh chali
Kuch khidkiyan, Lamhon ke dastak pe khul gayi
Kuch geeth purane rakhe the sirhaane,
Kuch sur kahin khoye the bandish mil gaye”

A striking quality of Prasoon Joshi’s lyrics is their bright imagery, reflecting his mettle as a poet and author. The imagination fills the listeners with positive energy and puts a smile on our face instantly. Another song to look at is “Kholo Kholo.”

Spirituality

“Jo bhi tere dar aaya,
Jhukne jo sar aaya
Mastiyan piye sabko
Jhoomta nazar aaya”

What are we but powerless in front of the lord, Delhi-6 was about the lives of traditional people from the narrow lanes of Delhi 6. The lyrics capture that faith, the intensity of an emotion known well to the Indians.
