Celebrations of Mahalaya in Noida and GreNo were an enthusiastic affair

Noida: The residents of Noida and Greater Noida celebrated the occasion of Mahalaya, on September 25, 2022, with zeal and ofcourse, lots of traditions. The Puja committees of Noida and Greater Noida celebrated this day with enthusiasm, following some traditional rituals across the two cities.

The day marks the arrival of Maa Durga and is celebrated a day ahead of the onset of Navratri. On the occasion of Mahalaya, Prabhat Pheri was organized by the  Central Noida Puja Committee, in which, devotees from different age groups participated. The Prabhat Pheri (Morning Pheri) started at 6:30 in the morning from Vedvan Park, Sector 78. The people who participated in it went around Sector 78 and the pheri was concluded at Vedvan Park again. The residents of Sector 74 to Sector 78 participated in the ritual.

Indrani Mukherjee, the President of the Central Noida Puja Committee says, "The day is very auspicious for us as on the day of Mahalaya, the Pitri Paksha ends and Devi Paksha starts, and Devi Durga arrives on Earth with her divine powers. This year, the Committee is making our puja pandal on the theme of Ayodhya Ram Mandir and the cultural events will start from September 30, 2022."

The Matri Peeth Kalibari in Greater Noida West performed the Tarpan Bidhi Anushthan, which is a ritual of offering prayers to ancestors. The first offering is dedicated to the Gods and then to the forefathers.

Subroto Upadhaya, the president of the Matri Peeth Kalibari, says, "Matri Peeth organized a 'Tarpan Bidhi' Ritual for all those who have practiced the 16-day Shradh period. September 25, 2022 was the last day of Shradh wherein offerings were made to the forefathers (Pitri Gan) and after seeking their blessings, everyone witnessed the beginning of the auspicious Devi Paksha. Also on Mahalaya, the eyes of goddess durga are drawn in the murtis called as "Chokkhu Daan."
