Robbie Coltrane, our beloved Hagrid from the Harry Potter series passes away

It's a sad day for all Potterheads as our favourite Hagrid is no more. Robbie Coltrane passed away at 72 on October 14, 2022, in Scotland. The actor became very popular for his portrayal of Rubeus Hagrid in the Harry Potter films.

There was never a time when we disliked his character and presence during the movies. His presence in the HP series was filled with iconic scenes from saving Harry to dancing in a ball with his lady love, the half-giant Hagrid will stay in our hearts forever. With every part of the series, he made our childhood a bit more magical.

The writers and cast of Harry Potter paid their tribute to the legendary actor-

JK Rowling, who wrote Harry Potter, posted a heartfelt remembrance of Robbie on Twitter.

"I'll never know anyone remotely like Robbie again. He was an incredible talent, a complete one-off, and I was beyond fortunate to know him, work with him and laugh my head off with him. I send my love and deepest condolences to his family, above all his children"

Emma Watson, Tom Felton, and others also paid sincere homage to the late actor.

Emma Watson shared a note on Instagram saying,
"Rest In Peace, Robbie Coltrane. Robbie was like the most fun uncle I've ever had but most of all he was deeply caring, and compassionate towards me as a child and an adult. His talent was so immense it made sense he played a giant - he could fill ANY space with his brilliance. Robbie, if I ever get to be so kind as you were to me on a film set I promise I'll do it in your name and memory. Know how much I adore and admire you. I'll miss your sweetness, your nicknames, your warmth, your laughs and your hugs. You made us a family. Know you were that to us. There was no better Hagrid. You made it a joy to be Hermione,"

Apart from Harry Potter, Robbie Coltrane was known for his performance in Hollywood films like 'Cracker', James Bond films GoldenEye' and 'The World Is Not Enough. He received praise from critics recently for his portrayal of a beloved TV personality who might be hiding a sinister secret in the 2016 miniseries National Treasure. He was last seen in Harry Potter's 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.

Belinda Wright, the actor's agent, reported that he passed away Friday at a Scottish hospital. In her statement, she mentions that he was, "forensically clever, brilliantly humorous, and after 40 years of being pleased to be called his agent, I shall miss him." She noted that Coltrane's sister Annie Rae, his ex-wife Rhona Gemmell, and his kids Spencer and Alice are all still alive.

Robbie Coltrane first achieved recognition as a tough detective in 'Cracker' in the 1990s. He earned the best actor prize three times in a row at the British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA) for his portrayal on the show.
