The festival of lights Diwali has arrived in the subcity. Everybody is on overdrive all across the sub-city to celebrate the festival after a Covid-induced hiatus. Dwarkites are busy shopping while markets of the sub-city are ready to cater the festive needs of residents. On the other hand,  authorities such as the Police, electrical department and sanitation department are busy with arrangements to make the festival safe, secure and glittering for residents.

To make the marketplaces safe, the Police administration has increased the number of its personnel in crowded areas and increased barricades. Also, morcha and posts have been erected on the premises where police personnel have been deployed with a weapon. Besides, late-night patrolling is also taking place.

DCP M Harsha Vardhan says, “Security is on top priority and I am taking rounds of the market areas. Yesterday, I patrolled Sector 6 and Sector 10 markets on foot. We have arranged three-layer security in the markets of Dwarka such as Sector 6, Sector 10 and markets around Ashirvad Chowk. Guards inside the markets with machan and morcha, outside forces and the CCTV system, have been ensured to have close sight of all the activities in the market."

He adds, "Besides, SHOs of the police stations have been directed to take rounds to the market areas. They are visiting the markets late at night too while patrolling has also been increased.”

On the other hand, to maintain lighting, BSES has been engaged in a full-fledged drive to solve the electricity problems in the sub-city. Senior General Manager, BSES, SK Dagar says, “We have been on war foot to make Dwarka properly lit. For the last month, our employees haven’t taken any holidays. Besides our routine work, we are taking prompt action on any complaints on our helpline numbers. Feeder boxes are being repaired, and in almost all the sectors maintenance works have been completed."

He adds that if there is any fault, residents can inform on the number given on the back of the electricity bill. The number is 39999707. Also, round-the-clock special duty staff have been assigned who are always available on the number 32546079.

Moreover, on the sanitation front, the corporation has been on massive cleaning drives to make the city neat and clean till tomorrow. Vehicles of the corporation are disposing the garbage so that the work could be completed before Diwali on October 24, 2022. Officials of the corporation said that they are also lifting garbage if anyone informs them about heap of garbage in the area.
