Delhi: The Delhi government has given a relief to the consumers who missed the electricity subsidy application window. Taking cognisance of the demand of Delhiites, the Delhi Government has extended the electricity subsidy application window till November 15, 2022. The applicants who opt-in for the subsidy by November 15, 2022 can avail the benefit from October 1 onwards itself.
Previously, the application window had closed on October 31. However, taking in consideration the requests of the people who missed the window, the Delhi Government decided to extend the time period. There are 58 lakh electricity consumers in Delhi, out of which, 47 lakh consumers received subsidy; 35 lakh consumers have opted-in so far.
Delhi Government provides 200 units of electricity absolutely free to all the residents in Delhi, while from 201 to 400 units, half the rate is charged. There are about 58 lakh domestic electricity consumers in Delhi. Out of this 47 lakh electricity consumers get subsidy. At the same time, out of these 47 lakh consumers, there are about 30 lakh consumers whose electricity bills come to zero, while the electricity bills of 16 to 17 lakh consumers come as per half rates.
Many people in Delhi were demanding that subsidies on electricity should be given only to those who are unable to pay the bills. They said that many people are capable of paying bills and they should be allowed to pay them. In view of this, the Delhi Government had decided that from October 1, only those consumers will get subsidy on electricity, who will apply and opt in for it. Applications for the subsidy on electricity were being taken from 15 September, 2022.
About 35 lakh consumers had applied for the subsidy in the given time period by the Delhi Government. Whereas the total number of people getting subsidy on electricity was about 47 lakhs. There are many consumers who have missed the window of applying due to lack of awareness, while some have not been able to apply due to technical reasons. After the end of the application period, there was a demand from these consumers to give some more time. The Delhi Government took cognisance of the demand and noted that consumers who want to take subsidy should not be deprived of applying due to lack of information. An awareness program is also being run on the instructions of CM Arvind Kejriwal. Thus it was decided to extend the application period till November 15, 2022. On the instructions of the CM, Deputy Chief Minister and Power Minister Manish Sisodia approved this proposal today. After this decision the deprived consumers will be able to fill the form till November 15 and they will also get the benefit of subsidy on electricity from October 1, 2022.
Those applying after November 15 will have to pay the bill for the month of October.
Those who apply for the subsidy after November 15, will have to pay the bill for the month of October and they will get a subsidy on electricity from the month of November. Similarly, those who apply in December will have to pay electricity bills for the months of October and November and they will get a subsidy from December. All in all, after November 15, the month in which the electricity consumers will apply for subsidy, they will get the subsidy from that month itself and they will have to pay the bill for the previous month before filling the form.

The Delhi government will also send messages to those consumers whose mobile number is linked with their electricity bill.
Three days after the application, you will be informed by SMS or e-mail that your subsidy is in progress.
