Dwarka: Delhi LG checks progress of Dwarka drain project at Sector 8, D-Block

Dwarka: Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena visited Dwarka Sector 8, D-Block to see the progress of the Dwarka drain project on November 8, 2022, along with DDA and BSES officials. This project started three months back to construct the rainwater drains and resolve the problems of inundation all across sector 8, IGI Airport, and Dwarka Sector 21 metro station.

Whenever it rains, these areas struggle with the problem of water logging. This project aims to build a sewage water drain at Sector-8, Dwarka to cater to the discharge of drain water from the airport. The problem of inundation of the IGI Airport here is expected to be resolved after the completion of a key sewage water drain at Dwarka. Another reason for its construction is the development and rehabilitation of trunk drains, for reusing the drain water for horticulture purposes.

The deadline to finish this project is December 2023. However, the LG has directed the project contractor to complete it before June 2023 so that water accumulation does not happen at Airport and sector 8 Dwarka. He also advised increasing the depth of the drain to use it as a water reservoir.

RWA Sector 8, Dwarka, D Block members met Vinai Kumar Saxena and gave a written application to him for completion of development work like roads, rainwater drains, parks, walking track, missing manholes & drain covers, and told him about several other problems of the area.

Amit Kumar, RWA Coordinator of Dwarka sector 8, D- block, says "This project directly impacts the IGI airport and Dwarka sector 8. It becomes very difficult to commute in this area due to water logging. We are glad that this project has been started and LG visited today to see the progress. He also instructed them to complete the project before the deadline by June 2023."

Kumar further added it has been notified that maintenance of Dwarka sectors 8, 9, and 10 will soon be handed over to the MCD from DDA in the coming 2-3 months. However, RWAs are not happy with this decision. He said, "Till now DDA was responsible for maintenance of roads, street lights, rainwater drains, and other related issues in these areas but after 2-3 months, MCD will be handling it all. In the letter given to LG, we requested that the responsibility should remain with DDA and should not be handed over to MCD until the pending work related to roads, street lights, and rainwater drain is completed. In reply, the LG assured us that he will get the work done in the coming 1-2 months."
