Fumes from cooking in makeshift food stalls at Jaipuria Plaza forces residents of I'puram's Jaipuria Sunrise Greens to keep balcony doors shut!

Just why on earth do they keep their doors shut? No, it ain't about thieves! Makeshift food stalls at Jaipuria Plaza

Smoke from open kitchens of makeshift food stalls at Jaipuria Plaza has made life difficult for the residents of Jaipuria Sunrise Greens, a residential society in Indirapuram.

Besides encroachment issues, the open food stalls near the Blocks A and B of the society send clouds of smoke towards the balconies of the flats located right above the plaza.

There are about six to seven such stalls in the area.

Nadeem-ur Rahman, a resident whose flat is located on the first floor right above the plaza, said the smoke from all the cooking and frying directly enters their homes through the balconies. "The residents of the first floor are the worst affected. In fact, we avoid standing in our balconies from 5.30 pm till 10 pm," he added

Most residents have to keep balcony doors shut throughout the evening till late night.

The Jaipuria Sunrise Greens AOA had intervened, but no good came of it.  "We tried talking to these stalls, but to no avail. These illegal stalls have encroached upon the entire space,” complained Shripal Singh, an AOA member.

He added, "We have also submitted a written complaint to the police, but things haven't improved."

The residents did get some respite after the GDA carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the area two months back, but the shops were back within a week.

Speaking to City Spidey, YN Chaudhary, head of the enforcement cell, GDA, said routine anti-encroachment drives had to be cancelled because of lack of enough police personnel owing to the approaching festive season. Also, he added, the majority of the force had to be posted at the banks and ATMs.

"The residents can write to me over WhatsApp. We will look into the matter in the next few days and visit the spot soon,” Chaudhary assured.
