Despite numerous complaints lodged by Dwarka residents, roads in the sub-city continue to be in a bad shape.
The master plan road 201 (near the command tank area), the master plan road 202 (from the signal near Dwarka Ashoka Apartments towards Ashirwad Chowk), the master plan road number 205 (near Sector 18) and the master plan road (near Command Tank 4, Sector 20) are examples of stretches that are particularly bad.
"I have been writing to DDA and PMO to repair the roads since a year," said PC Xavier, a member of the managing committee of Sahyadri Apartments in Sector 12. "I have been following up with the authorities about road repairs in the Metro corridor parallel to master plan roads. It is only now that they have started some work but that too is progressing at a snail's pace. The master plan roads are in dire need of repairs and DDA should take it seriously."
It is not only the master plan roads that are in such a condition. The internal Sector roads are no better, with the tarmac on most of them lying damaged.
"The stretch between Government School and Akash Ganga Apartments in Sector 6 and the one between the intersection of Sectors 8 and 9 and the police station are proof of DDA's apathy," said AS Chatwal, vice-president of Dwarka Forum and general-secretary of Sector 8 RWA. "Take any road in the sub-city, for that matter. None of them are in a perfect shape," he added.
City Spidey discussed the matter with DP Singh, chief engineer, DDA. "When we carpeted the master plan roads in 2014, some of them were left unrepaired as by then those stretches had already been handed over to PWD for maintenance," said Singh. "We have held several meetings with them, we have written to them, but they have not taken any action on the road repairs. We are currently preparing the estimates for the repair of roads in our scope and they will be done soon."
With DDA and PWD passing the buck to each other, however, the condition of roads continues to worsen.
