Noida: Tallest Lego Christmas tree in North India in the making?

Have you seen a 20 foot-tall Christmas tree made of Lego blocks? If not, then you have a chance to see one soon at DLF Mall of India, Sector 18, Noida.

What makes it even more interesting is that it is being built by children. The sponsors of the initiative claim that once completed, it would be the tallest Christmas tree in North India, made of 1,68,832 Lego blocks.

According to Naveen Nayyar, regional head of Funskool (a toy manufacturing company), the number of blocks being used would fill two shipping containers and it would take 100 hours to make the structure.

On December 17, there was a group of ten kids that was busy constructing the structure, with help from a few trainers, at gate number 8 of the mall.

Yashmeen Mirza, one of the parents present at the mall, said, “Such activities help foster creativity in children.”

Rizwan Ahmad, another parent, said that his son likes playing with Lego blocks and is especially excited to build the structure.

Those children who are unfamiliar with Lego blocks can also engage themselves in the activity. Deepak Kumar, a trainer, said, “Kids not familiar with these blocks are taught how to create decorative items, such as candles and elephants.”

According to Deepak, the structure would be completed in a couple of days. “It’s 4 feet tall today [December 17]. Once completed, we would put it on display and it would be here at the mall for Christmas.”

Funskool and Hemleys, a toy company, are the organisers of the activity. Lego is a construction toy consisting of interlocking building blocks of plastic.
