After a spirited Facebook campaign by a handful of Gurgaon residents, the bus accident victim is now assured of money for treatment from Gurgaon deputy commissioner.

A  social media campaign started to encourage donations for accident victim Shahnara Khatoon has yielded positive results. She is now assured of government aid.

On December 17, a delegation led by Hemant Kapani met with the deputy commissioner of Gurgaon, TL Satyaprakash. He promised a sum of Rs 1 lakh for treatment from the administration funds. The money will go towards the victim's plastic surgery.

Lauding the efforts, Prem Kumar Chandna, RWA president of Drone Apartment, said, "This is really great news. I congratulate Hemant Kapani and others on their success."

Surendra  Bedi,  a resident of Drone Apartment, said, "This is the strength of social media! I appreciate the DC's decision to support the victim." 

Khatoon's leg was crushed by a speeding school bus on December 8. The incident came to light through a prompt social media campaign, and the police lodged an FIR on December 12. The driver, who had fled the spot, was duly arrested.

So far, a lakh has been collected through public contributions alone.
