In current-day Bollywood, we see many female directors such as Anvita Dutt, Ashwini Iyer, and Zoya Akhtar changing the game. Yet, even when women were seldomly seen in the director's chair, Meghna Gulzar told unique stories of women through her art.

Meghna is the daughter of poet and lyricist Gulzar and actress Raakhee. Meghna was born on December 13, 1973, and today she celebrates her 49th birthday.  She was a writer for a leading newspaper and NFDC publication cinema in India. When she decided to become a part of filmmaking, she completed a filmmaking course in New York and returned to India. She worked with many renowned directors including her father and debuted as a director with Filhaal in 2002. Filhaal did not receive success, but Meghna kept on trying and improving herself.

The film is about an acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal. Deepika Padukone portrays Laxmi in the film and shows her journey of getting justice. The film was appreciated by the audience and brought some positive impact to making some laws to protect acid attack survivors. Chhapaak also bagged many awards like Filmfare 2021, Dada Saheb Phalke film festival 2021 and so on.

Talwar (2015)

Talwar was a Murder mystery by Meghna starring Irrfan Khan and Konkona Sen. The film is all about the murder of a teenage girl and her house servant in Gaziabad. This film brought the best-adapted screenplay Award and the best editing award to Meghna.

Just Married (2007)

Esha Deol and Fardeen Khan in the lead role in the film showcases the life of newly married couples. The story revolves around the problems and awkward moments of a forcedly married couple. The concept of arranged marriage is closely observed in the film. Although not her best, Just Married is sensitive and fun to watch.

Filhaal (2002)

Sushmita Sen, Tabu and Sanjay Suri are in the leading role in the film. This film marks the debut of Meghna Gulzar in Bollywood as a director. The film received Zee Cine Award for best-supporting actress for Sushmita Sen. The film revolves around a woman who cannot give birth and her best friend becomes her rescue and becomes the surrogate mother for her child.

Raazi (2018)

Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal starrer Raazi is a film about an Indian agent married to a Pakistani cop. This thriller and patriotic film by Meghna Gulzar touched the hearts of many and bagged her a Filmfare Award for Best Director that year.

Meghna Gulzar's upcoming project is about the life of Marshal Sam Manekshaw. Vicky Kaushal will be seen in the leading role. This film will be about the victory in the 1971 Indo-Pak War and bravery on the field.
